From the Penthouse To the Outhouse: The Derek Anderson Story

The carriage turned into a pumpkin. An inspiring year turned sour. One incredibly bad game in the one you have to win. Welcome to the world of Derek Anderson.

They say great players have short memories. But so do Alzheimers patients and people with ADD. At what point does Derek Anderson’s short memory create long term repercussions?

Even 3 picks, and this game is winnable. But Anderson’s refusal to take what is given him results in turnovers. Stop his deep routes and he’ll continue to throw them. A smart QB would simply move the chains and throw 10-12 yard passes. But that implies accuracy, another Anderson deficiency. And when does he decide to throw short? At the end of the game to run the clock out on his teammates.

Rarely have I seen a game where one player shoulders virtually 100% of the blame. Even though we gave up too many yards on the ground, the defense converted 3 TO’s of their own, and did not allow a single ball possession drive against a good Bengals offense. Anyone else besides the bad Derek Anderson…any mediocre performance gets it done against a Bengals team looking to fold. They were exhausted defensively, and tried to give us the game in their last 2 possessions.

But all that is in the past. DA has a short memory. When Brady Quinn starts next year, will he remember why he is no longer the starter? Young players must learn. And Derek Anderson is now learning the flip side of the Cinderella story.

Speaking of SHORT TERM Memory….let us not forget that DEREK ANDERSON is one of the reasons why the Cleveland Browns have won 9 games this season….and will finish with a winning record for the 1st time in ages….and still, they have a chance at the Playoffs if they can win next week, and if TENNESSEE Loses to INDIANAPOLIS. (Just depends how many starters the COLTS will play)

Brett Favre has had numerous MULTI-INTERCEPTION games, and still people think of him as being a great player.

Peyton Manning has done the same.

True, I don’t put DEREK ANDERSON in the same league as a Favre or Peyton…but Christ…he had a BAD GAME. Hopefully he will learn from this.

Tell me right now that all the more revered QB’s (Aikman, Montana, etc) never had a bad game.

And if you think that BRADY QUINN will come into the league and never throw numerous interceptions in a Cleveland Game…..Well……It’s time to check for Alzheimers.

This is not a case of “just one bad game”. DA has been regressing for weeks. Even during his best games many of his throws are high and/or behind the reciever. As many times as our recievers were laid out reaching for a ball it a miracle we had no serious injuries this year.
Don’t get me wrong, I want DA to be a Brown, I hope we give him a good offer and I hope he stays.

Review the video and you will see that windslow was wide open going into the endzone on the last play any ball near him would have been a TD.

Sam is actually right… I was thinking the same thing when I saw the replay.

Anderson will get better with age and time. If you look at another hotshot young gun, Tony Romo, you’ll see that last year he started out gangbusters, and tailed off at the end of the year. Tony still has bad games, but Dallas has been able to win through them because, right now, they have better personnel around him (especially on the D). One thing Tony does (Romo, I mean; not the Calf), is check down to the TE or RB instead of forcing. Last year, he forced a lot more.

I agree Big Dog, as I’ve said, I want both Brady and DA on this team next year. Let the best man win in camp. We got through this year without any major injuries, but we are only one dislocated finger away from disaster. Keep them both for another season and lets see how it plays out. All in all it’s not a bad position to be in.

you look at the games between all the teams vying for the Respective Wild Card Post Season Positions and i only see two teams that looked like they gave a damn and deserved to be playoff teams, Cleveland Didnt look like they were a playoff Team, Derek Anderson Regressed another Week and made those same rookie like Mistakes that Tarvaris Jackson Makes in Minnesota, Which didnt even look like they were a playoff team either, you know anybody who says that after yesterday that the browns should recieve a first round pick for DA is blind, nobody is going to want a QB thats making the Rookie mistakes that DA and TJack make, also anybody who says that DA is as good as he was in weeks 2-5, Again your Heads in the Sand, to sum it up yesterday, Both the Vikings and the Browns are not Deserving Playoff Teams if they continue to play like this.

PS. I was listening to Fox Sports Radio This Morning and they were saying that Cleveland if they do trade Derek Anderson, that he should be traded to Minnesota, Now my Question for Mr Moo, Lee and all other Pastureheads out there, Do you Think Derek Anderson would be a good fit for Minnesota, if not, where (if they do) do you think Cleveland will Ship Anderson off too.

My thought is, No way anderson would work in Minnesota, Minnesota’s Offense is a West Coast Style, Although he might be better that Tarvaris Jackson, theres no chance in hell that DA would work in a west coast style offense.

Tony, teams will sometimes pay, and pay through the nose, for “potential.” DA has a lot of upside, regardless of his recent failings. There are still teams out there that would put up a first round pick for his services. Non-West Coast Offense teams who need QBs like the New York Jets or Miami Dolphins. Or even the Bears, who have three QBs, none of whom can do the job.

Remember what Miami put up for AJ Feeley a couple years ago… Was it worth it? No. But they were looking at his “potential.”

so basically your saying teams will take the Adonal Foyle approach and sign the guy for his talent, regardless weather the sum of money.
