Twenty More NBA Officials Involved in Gambling???

1050AM in New York is saying that Tim “Ratfink” Donaghy will sing like a canary and implicate at least 20 NBA refs, who Donaghy says are involved in gambling.

Mr Moohead naturally has questions. Just because a ref goes to a casino, doesn’t make him a piece of shit like Donaghy. What I want to know is…did other NBA refs bet on NBA games? Were they involved in a gambling “fraternity” that helped decide the outcomes of games?

Through my years of viewing, I have seen many games that I believed were fixed. Not just phantom calls, but free throw charity given to a team in the 4th quarter of games. Crucial players getting hit with a flurry of calls early. Things that would definitely change a game.

Tim Donaghy is now a pariah. What he says will be brushed off like a Jose Canseco book. But the spectre of a massive gambling fraternity in pro sports looms large. David Stern faces a potential crisis. The league may be forced to induce voluntary referee resignations, in order to put a fresh coat of paint over the foul stench of gambling activity.

I have been a cynic for years. I feel like a Kennedy conspiracy advocate, except now my fears are exploding in headlines. Keep it tuned here. The fun is just beginning.

Almost like the Republican party only a little less corrupt.

Anyone who thinks this doesn’t occur fairly often in any sport is fooling themselves. Here is an excellent recent article from USAToday about it’s prevelance in college football.

“‘Is it a huge problem? I wouldn’t say that. But it’s a continual problem,’ says Matt Heron, chief of the organized crime section at FBI headquarters in Washington. ‘It’s out there. We know it’s out there. Whether we can prove it is a different matter.’”
